Originally, Viracocha created giants to walk the earth, but, dissatisfied, he destroyed them with a flood and constructed humans from clay instead. Viracocha shared his gifts of civilization with humanity including language, art, and agriculture. Eventually, he turned himself into a beggar to walk the earth and spread his teachings until he disappeared into the Pacific Ocean. The Incans believed Viracocha returned to help and give guidance in times of trouble.
In Inca tradition, nothing is insignificant – everything in the universe is alive and connected. From a grain of sand to the largest animals on earth, all things were considered intertwined and influential.
